Journal of Statistics for the Physical, Chemical, and Engineering SciencesPublished Quarterly by the American Society for Quality and the American Statistical AssociationSince its inception in 1959, the mission of Technometrics has been to contribute to the development and use of statistical methods in the physical, chemical, and engineering sciences.Technometrics publishes papers that describe new statistical techniques, illustrate innovative application of known statistical methods, or review methods, issues, or philosophy in a particular area of statistics or science, when such papers are consistent with the journal's objective. Since 1959, the methods presented in the journal have reflected changes in the discipline.In recent years, some of these changes have been associated with improved computer technology and availability, resulting in highly flexible and computer-intensive approaches to scientific data analysis. (See for example the lead article in the August 1998 issue by Richard A. Becker, Linda A. Clark, and Diane Lambert entitled "Events Defined By Duration and Severity, with an Application to Network Reliability," with discussion by Jeff Robinson and Josef Schmee.) With the emergence of massive computing and data storage capabilities, statistical approaches to screening, flexible modeling, pattern characterization, and change detection that were infeasible 20 years ago are now viable. There have also been shifts in basic attitudes about data analysis (e.g., less formal hypothesis testing, more fitted models via graphical analysis), and in how some of our important application areas are managed (e.g., quality assurance through robust design rather than detailed inspection).Many of the problems in industry today concern the analysis of huge data sets that lead to improved quality or better understanding of the manufacturing or development process. The journal would like to encourage submissions that address problems of this nature and that take advantage of modern resources.Technometrics is reviewed in Mathematical Reviews, abstracted in Applied Science & Technology Abstracts and abstracted and indexed in The Engineering Index, COMPENDEX, and Applied Science & Technology Index.

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is the largest professional society that focuses on undergraduate mathematics education. Our members include university, college, and high school teachers; graduate and undergraduate students; pure and applied mathematicians; computer scientists; statisticians; and many others in academia, government, business, and industry. The Annals of Applied Probability aims to publish research of the highest quality reflecting the varied facets of contemporary Applied Probability. Primary emphasis is placed on importance and originality.

Statistical research spans an enormous range from direct subject-matter collaborations to pure mathematical theory. The Annals of Applied Statistics, the newest journal from the IMS, is aimed at papers in the applied half of this range. Published quarterly in both print and electronic form, our goal is to provide a timely and unified forum for all areas of applied statistics.

The Annals of Probability publishes research papers in modern probability theory, its relations to other areas of mathematics, and its applications in the physical and biological sciences. Emphasis is on importance, interest, and originality - formal novelty and correctness are not sufficient for publication. The Annals will also publish authoritative review papers and surveys of areas in vigorous development.

The Annals of Statistics aim to publish research papers of highest quality reflecting the many facets of contemporary statistics. Primary emphasis is placed on importance and originality, not on formalism. The journal aims to cover all areas of statistics, especially mathematical statistics and applied & interdisciplinary statistics. Of course many of the best papers will touch on more than one of these general areas, because the discipline of statistics has deep roots in mathematics, and in substantive scientific fields.Mathematical StatisticsMathematics provides the language in which models, the properties of statistical methods and computation algorithms are formulated. It is essential for rigor, coherence, clarity and understanding. Consequently, our policy is to continue to play a special role in presenting research at the forefront of mathematical statistics, especially theoretical advances that are likely to have a significant impact on statistical methodology, computation or understanding.Applied and Interdisciplinary StatisticsSubstantive fields are essential for continued vitality of statistics since they provide the motivation and direction for most of the future developments in statistics. We thus intend to publish papers relating to the role of statistics in interdisciplinary investigations in all fields of natural, medical, technical and social science.

The Econometrics Journal was established in 1998 by the Royal Economic Society with the aim of creating a top international field journal for the publication of econometric research with a standard of intellectual rigour and academic standing similar to those of the pre-existing top field journals in econometrics. The Econometrics Journal is committed to publishing first-class papers in macro-, micro- and financial econometrics. It is a general journal for econometric research open to all areas of econometrics, whether applied, computational, methodological or theoretical contributions. Submissions to The Econometrics Journal receive detailed and informative appraisal. Some papers may be rejected without seeking the advice of referees and the provision of reports but are scrutinised in detail by a member of the editorial board. This practice is only invoked for submissions unlikely to prove publishable in The Econometrics Journal to avoid unnecessarily prolonging the editorial process and taxing the limited resource of referees. The Econometrics Journal is dedicated to achieving an exacting standard for the editorial process, both in terms of usefulness and speed, to promote the submission of high-quality econometric research. The Econometrics Journal provides annual reports concerning the editorial process. The Econometrics Journal provides immediate electronic access to papers accepted for publication circumventing the often long publication delays associated with other paper-based journals. More than three thousand members of the Royal Economic Society and the users of over three thousand are able to view without charge papers published or forthcoming in The Econometrics Journal.

The Fibonacci Quarterly, the journal of the Fibonacci Association, provides a focus for worldwide interest in the Fibonacci numbers and related mathematics. In particular, we welcome articles on integer sequences, and relevant topics in Mathematical Biology, a new section added to the journal. In addition to publishing high level research papers, we also encourage mathematical outreach articles on fun and accessible topics, from new proofs and expositions, to interesting connections between diverse topics. We invite contributions from all readers to the problems sections, on topics from high school to advanced undergraduate. The Fibonacci Quarterly seeks to involve researchers, enthusiasts, students and teachers of all ages through exploration and exchange of ideas.

The Journal of Defense Modeling and Simulation: Applications, Methodology, Technology (JDMS) is a journal devoted to advancing the practice, science, and art of modeling and simulation as it relates to the military and defense. Topics include: warfighting, training, test and evaluation, command and control, aerospace, peacekeeping, non-traditional missions, and homeland security, simulation design techniques, and federation construction process, simulation techniques, synthetic natural environment modeling, multi-resolution techniques, and High Level Architecture.

The Journal of Mathematical Sociology is published in association with the International Network for Social Network Analysis, the Japanese Association for Mathematical Sociology, the Mathematical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association, the Methodology Section of the American Sociological Association, and with the generous support of the UCLA Division of Social Sciences . The Journal of Mathematical Sociology publishes articles in all areas of mathematical sociology. The Journal of Mathematical Sociology also welcomes papers of mutual interest to social scientists and other social and behavioral scientists, as well as papers by non-social scientists that may encourage fruitful connections between sociology and other disciplines. Reviews of new or developing areas of mathematics and mathematical modeling that may have significant applications in sociology will also be considered. Because Journal of Mathematical Sociology is addressed primarily to sociologists it is anticipated that most articles will be oriented toward a mathematical understanding of emergent complex social structures rather than to an analysis of individual behavior. These structures include, for example, informal groups, social networks, organizations, and global systems. Papers on sociological and statistical methods are also welcome.
