Journal Guide

The Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry is an established cell biology journal that includes primary research articles, timely reviews, editorials and perspectives on the structure and function of cells, tissues and organs. This includes research into mechanisms of development, differentiation, and disease. High priority is given to submissions where imaging techniques are complemented by current genetic, molecular, and biochemical approaches. The Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry welcomes concise review articles, especially those that address key issues in methodology. The journal continues to publish new developments in microscopy and imaging. Purely descriptive studies of gene or molecular expression also will be considered, particularly where supported by experimental data to generate mechanistic insights into cell or tissue function.

The Journal of Histotechnology publishes original articles dealing with vertebrate histology or cytology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, marine histology, nuclear histology, veterinary histology, fluorescence and electron microscopy, molecular biology, and case studies describing the use of stains in the analysis of disease in human or animal tissue. Articles dealing with quality control, tricks of the trade, and educational or administrative techniques directly related to these disciplines are also published.

Journal of Inflammation welcomes research submissions on all aspects of inflammation. Please note that non-research articles are specially commisioned by the Editors-in-Chief. Journal of Inflammation is affiliated with the British Inflammation Research Association (BIRAs).

Journal of Interferon & Cytokine Research provides the latest groundbreaking research on all aspects of IFNs and cytokines. Journal of Investigative Dermatology (JID) publishes papers describing original research on all aspects of cutaneous biology and skin disease. Topics include biochemistry, biophysics, carcinogenesis, cell regulation, development, skin structure, extracellular matrix, genetics, immunology, melanocyte biology, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, pathology, physiology, pharmacology, photobiology, percutaneous absorption, clinical research, epidemiology and other population-based research. Original Articles, Communications, Review Articles, and Letters to the Editor are standard features. Perspectives and Commentaries are invited by the Editorial Board.

Journal of Investigative Dermatology Symposium Proceedings (JIDSP) publishes peer-reviewed, invited papers relevant to all aspects of cutaneous biology and skin disease. These papers have often been initially presented at a scientific meeting. Recent JIDSP issues were generated from scientific meetings devoted to research in specific topic areas, including "Keratinocyte and Melanocyte Cancers of Skin: Interacting Pathways" (53rd Montagna Symposium on the Biology of Skin); "First International Pachyonychia Congenita Symposium"; "Stem Cells in Skin" (52nd Montagna Symposium on the Biology of Skin); and "The Burden of Skin Disease". Potential topics include biochemistry, biophysics, carcinogenesis, cellular growth and regulation, clinical research, development, epidemiology and other population-based research, extracellular matrix, genetics, immunology, melanocyte biology, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, pathology, pharmacology and percutaneous absorption, photobiology, physiology, and skin structure.

The Journal of Leukocyte Biology (JLB) has its origins in the Journal of the Reticuloendothelial Society (JRES) and is today an increasingly highly recognized international journal reporting scientific advances in leukocyte biology.In 1922, Karl Albert Ludwig Aschoff (1866–1942) coined the term “reticuloendothelial system” (RES) [1]. The RES concept was introduced as early as 1914 by Kenji Kiyono (1855–1955). One of the most prominent characteristics of RES cells was their propensity for absorption and storage of vital stains in granular form that had been introduced into the blood in solution. .

The Journal of Lipid Research (JLR) focuses on the science of lipids in health and disease. The Journal emphasizes lipid function and the biochemical and genetic regulation of lipid metabolism. In addition, JLR publishes manuscripts on patient-oriented and epidemiological research relating to altered lipid metabolism, including modification of dietary lipids. The JLR aims to be on the forefront of the emerging areas of genomics, proteomics, and lipidomics as they relate to lipid metabolism and function.The JLR covers biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, structural biology, genetics, genomics, immunology, metabolism, nutrition and clinical science as they relate to lipids.

The Journal of Molecular Cell Biology (JMCB) is an online, peer-reviewed journal interested in inter-disciplinary studies at the cross-sections between molecular and cell biology as well as other disciplines of life sciences. The broad scope of JMCB reflects the merging of these life science disciplines such as stem cell research, signaling, genetics, epigenetics, genomics, development, immunology, cancer biology, molecular pathogenesis, neuroscience, plant biology, and systems biology. The journal will publish primary research papers with findings of unusual significance and broad scientific interest. The Journal of Molecular Histology publishes 6 times a year full-length original research papers, review articles, short communications and letters to the editors. Coverage includes studies describing novel cellular or ultrastructural distributions of molecules which provide insight into biochemical or physiological function, development, histological structure and disease processes. Among the techniques addressed are histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, receptor binding, autoradiography, image capture and processing, and reporter molecules as well as state-of-the-art visualization techniques. Areas of research include: Cell-Cell and Cell-Matrix Interactions; Connective Tissues; Development and Disease; Neuroscience. The Journal of Molecular Histology does not consider manuscripts dealing with the application of immunological or other probes on non-standard laboratory animal models unless the results are clearly of significant and general biological importance.

The Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology publishes work advancing knowledge of the mechanisms responsible for both normal and diseased cardiovascular function. To this end papers are published in all relevant areas. These include (but are not limited to): structural biology; genetics; proteomics; morphology; stem cells; molecular biology; metabolism; biophysics; electrophysiology; pharmacology and physiology. Papers are encouraged with both basic and translational approaches.
